What does Tier III mean?
A reliability standard for engineering systems: the data center is designed according to the Uptime Institute methodology. Power, cooling and network are redundant, so the failure of one node does not stop the rest, and scheduled maintenance runs without shutting down equipment.
Tier III in Numbers
Full infrastructure redundancy and constant cooling. Repairing or replacing a node does not require shutting down equipment or stopping the data center. Availability is fixed in the SLA — 99.9% per month with compensation for downtime: that is no more than 45 minutes of unavailability per month.
What does Tier III give your server?
Under the Uptime Institute methodology, levels below Tier III allow equipment to be stopped for scheduled repairs and do not make every node redundant — that is the difference.
